Peladon (King): Ruling monarch of a planet with the same name, the soon-to-be-crowned King Peladon is attempting to gain his planet entry into the Galactic Federation. As Federation delegates arrive to discuss Peladon's admission and make the final decision, trouble begins. At the same time, the Third Doctor and Jo Grant arrive by mistake. After the TARDIS falls over a cliff, the Doctor and Jo go the the castle for help. They are soon captured and brought before King Peladon, who  immediately falls for Jo. Everyone believes them to be the delegates from Earth. Though there are many other troubles and the delegates wish to cancel the conference, King Peladon is devoted to the idea of his planet joining the Federation and does all he can to continue it. At one point, he proposes marriage to Jo even though he believes the Doctor may be the cause of all their problems. Jo turns him down. Eventually it is proven that High Priest Hepesh, who is opposed to the planet joining the Federation and has been warning that the curse of Aggedor, is behind all the trouble. Hepesh briefly raises a force and takes control of the throne room. The Doctor arrives, however, with the "real" Aggedor. The spirit that many worshipped was in fact a beast, native to the planet, that Hepesh had trained for his own use. Hepesh is killed by the beast before the Doctor can call it off. King Peladon weeps at the death, and covers the body with a cloth. As preparations continue for Peladon's coronation, he asks Jo to stay. She turns him down, but he does not give up and plans to ask her ask her again after the coronation. Planning to stay for the festivities, the Doctor and Jo must make a hasty exit when the real Earth delegate arrive.

After King Peladon's death, the planet is ruled by Queen Thalira, who is the daughter of the late king.
