Weeping Angels:

According to the Tenth Doctor, the Weeping Angels are as old as the universe (or very nearly) but no one really knows where they come from. He also describes them as "creatures of the abstract", "the lonely assassins", and "the only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely", because their method of "killing" doesn't do anything of the sort: a touch sends their victims into the past to live out their lives before they were even born; the Angels then feed on the "potential energy" of the lives their victims would have lived in the present.
The physiology of the Weeping Angels is quantum-locked. This means that they turn to stone when observed. This acts as a defence mechanism, as they cannot be killed while petrified. It is also a hindrence, however, as they cannot kill. They usually cover their eyes with their hands to prevent themselves from looking at each other, giving the impression that they are 'weeping'. They can move with great speed, being fast enough to move across a street in a single blink of the eye.
A quartet of Weeping Angels strand the Tenth Doctor and his companion Martha Jones in the year 1969, and attempt to feed off their vast potential energy as well as the energy reserves of the TARDIS. Despite dispatching the Doctor and somewhow getting the key, the Angels fail to get into the TARDIS as they can't find the machine itself. Sally Sparrow takes the key from one of them while it is in stone form, leading them to stalk her to regain it. During their pursuit, Sally inadvertently leads them to the TARDIS. Eventually the four Angels, having surrounded the TARDIS, are tricked into looking at each other when the box disappears, leaving them permanently locked in their stone forms.
White Guardian:

The White Guardian is the personification of order. He is the counterpart of the Black Guardian, who represents evil, chaos and entropy. The two Guardians balance out the forces in the universe, although the Black Guardian seems to desire to upset the balance in favour of chaos and evil while the White Guardian prefers to maintain peace and harmony. Both Guardians sought the Key to Time, an artifact of immense power that would give the wielder supreme power over all existence. The White Guardian had concerns that the universe was descending into chaos. As a result, he asked the Fourth Doctor to find and assemble the Key to Time so that he might restore the balance of the universe. The Doctor was successful in this task, but the Black Guardian disguised himself as the White and tried to deceive the Doctor into handing the key over to him instead. The Doctor saw through the Black Guardian's ruse and ordered the key to redisperse, though he commented afterwards that the White Guardian should have been able to carry out his work while the key was assembled. The White Guardian next appeared to the Fifth Doctor, who had inadvertantly become involved in a solar sailboat race across the Sol System. He warned the Fifth Doctor that the Black Guardian was attempting to force Turlough, one of the Doctor's companions, to kill the him. Both Guardians appeared at the end of the race to offer the prize of "Enlightenment" to the winner, who turn out to be the Doctor and Turlough.
